Description

The workshop will provide the learner with a current day understanding of Adult ADHD, presenting challenges, how to diagnosis, and a multi-pronged approach to treatment. A full review of present-day common presentations and confounding variables is presented. Active discussion, sharing of participants experiences, and working with families are all included. There is a detailed approach to treatment, including psychopharmacology and behavioral techniques.

Dr. Jill A. RachBeisel is the Irving J. Taylor Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the Chief of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland Medical Center. A general psychiatrist, she focuses on adults with serious and persistent mental illness, substance use disorders and women’s mental health.  

Dr. RachBeisel is a board-certified general psychiatrist. She received her medical degree from the Penn State University School of Medicine in Hershey, PA and completed her adult residency program at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. During her training she received multiple awards including the Burrows Welcome Fellowship and the Eugene Brody Award in Outstanding Psychotherapy. Following her training, Dr. RachBeisel began her career here at the University of Maryland Department of Psychiatry where she remains today. She is an established clinical scientist and educator with a strong administrative/leadership focus. From the start of her career Dr. RachBeisel gravitated to the development of clinical programs driven by evidence-based, scientifically established interventions serving those in most need of mental health care. She became an established leader moving though many roles within the Department of Psychiatry including the Director of Inpatient Psychiatry, Adult Division Director, Community Psychiatry Division Director, Chief of Clinical services and finally Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs before she assumed the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry.  

Dr. RachBeisel’s contribution to science is based on a strong collaborative model bringing clinicians and researchers together where clinical questions and curiosity drive the investigative studies. Specific areas of interest include systems of care and meeting the medical needs of persons with mental illness, integrating medical care into mental health and substance use disorders programs, the collaborative care model of mental health services within primary and specialty programs and measurement-based care including the monitoring of the Quality of Life in persons with severe mental illness. Women’s mental health and working with adults with ADHD have also taken a front row seat as she promotes the wellness of Maryland residents.  

A well established leader in mental health care in Maryland, Dr. RachBeisel has been nominated as one of Maryland’s Top Women for 2021.
