Are you ready to take a deeper dive into the SHARP Framework and explore how when paired with narrative therapy techniques, service providers can enhance their therapeutic alliance with individuals and families? The SHARP Framework provides a racial justice lens that supports service providers with viewing structural oppression and racism as socially engineered trauma that severely impacts black and brown communities. When layered with narrative therapy techniques, service providers can deepen the exploration of the humanity of individuals, families, and their communities, while shifting and externalizing the shame and blame of historical and current social injustices. Together, both frameworks in reflective nature, can support the building of the therapeutic alliance.
Instructor
Christopher S. Beegle, MSW, LCSW-C is the Director of Clinical Services at The Center for Restorative Change, directly leading and overseeing community-based, in-home services with children and families at Family Connections Baltimore. Direct and supervise clinicians implementing evidence-based model of Family Connections and adaptations of Grandparent Family Connections and Trauma-Adapted Family Connections. Co-facilitator in training and replication of Trauma-Adapted Family Connections. Prior to becoming the Director he was a counselor at the University of Maryland, School of Social Work, Family Connections program. He provided in-home, family-based services, with caregivers and children participating in Family Connections, Trauma Adapted-Family Connections and Grandparent Family Connections. Prior to Family Connections, he served as a social worker in Prince George’s County Department of Social Services providing clinical services to families and youth with plans of reunification, adoption, and reunification and independent living. Trained in Family Finding, he assisted and helped children construct timelines in efforts to locate relatives, neighbors, and friends to serve as supports. Mr. Beegle facilitated family meetings to support family members’ efforts in re-establishing relationships with youth in foster care. He supported the implementation of Family Finding in Prince George’s County Department of Social Services and represented his jurisdiction, contributing to the state level implementation and intervention strategies.
Mr. Beegle is trained and a certified therapist in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), The Road to Recovery Toolkit: Supporting Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities who have Experienced Trauma, PracticeWise Managing and Adapting Practice (MAP), and Youth Mental Health First Aid. He is a certified facilitator in Core Curriculum on Childhood Trauma (CCCT) with National Child Traumatic Stress Network, training providers and graduate level Interns on the core concepts influencing children and families when experiencing trauma. In his current role, Mr. Beegle provides clinical supervision to social workers in multiple settings including community-based family-centered services and school systems. As a Faculty Field Instructor, he facilitates trainings, seminars, group supervision and individual supervision for graduate-level social work interns incorporating both macro and micro-level frameworks into their practices.
Mr. Beegle is currently a trainer and curriculum developer for the SHARP framework, participating in a Category II SAMHSA Grant, implementing anti-racist and anti-oppressive framework in human services. Mr. Beegle remains very interested in evolving human service systems approaches in addressing the safety and well-being of children and families, providing trauma-informed services with an antiracist and racial equity framework.
LaShonda Godwin MSW, LCSW-C, is a licensed clinical social worker, practicing in Baltimore, Maryland. She is also a writer, educator, speaker and mentor in the field of social work. LaShonda began her social work journey in childhood, fostering her passion and inspiration for helping people to realize their potential and capacity for healing and wholeness. Always curious about the “root issues” that impact individuals, families and communities, LaShonda dedicates most of her time working to understand the effects of trauma and social injustices. Over the last 20 years, LaShonda has engaged with folks from all different backgrounds, experiencing mental health challenges, domestic violence/sexual assault, structural oppression and racial inequity. She is currently the Deputy Director at Family Connections Baltimore, where she supports with the daily activities of field education and community programming. LaShonda also serves as a Faculty Clinical Field Instructor, supporting the growth and knowledge of future social workers. LaShonda shares her expertise and passion for educating others through workshops and conferences on the topics of mental health, trauma-responsive practice, and anti-oppression/liberatory-focused social work practice. She attended Southern Connecticut State University where she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work and the University of Maryland School of Social Work, obtaining a Master of Social Work degree. She has been employed by the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, Housing Commission of Anne Arundel County and most recently the National Center for Children and Families in Washington, DC prior to her current work with families at Family Connections Baltimore.

Learning Objectives: After attending this workshop, participants will:
- Gain a deeper understanding of the practical utilization of the SHARP Framework during service provision.
- Explore the use of narrative therapy techniques and integration of the SHARP Framework to reflect on and disrupt the negative dominant narratives rooted in structural oppression and racism.
- Learn the importance of utilizing reflective supervision to increase and support the utilization of the SHARP Framework with individuals, families, and communities.
