This workshop will guide newly appointed leaders in developing their own leadership strategies to effectively advance their work and benefit the organization. Participants will gain insights, tools, and practical techniques to navigate their roles with confidence and clarity. Participants will explore various aspects of leadership, including aligning with organizational vision, team dynamics, day-to-day responsibilities, and maintaining balance and sustainability.
Denise Relf, MPA (she/her/hers) is the owner of Never Stop Growing Coaching & Consulting. Denise earned her Master of Public Affairs and Administration in 2009 from Metropolitan College of New York. Since then, Denise has co-created and launched New York City’s first Motivational Interviewing Labs for NYC Administration of Children’s Services (NYC ACS). While at NYC ACS, she served as a major contributor and advisor during the launch of two multi-million-dollar initiatives. Some of her work on those initiatives included: creating adult learning programs for staff development, facilitating, creating train–the–trainer processes, and serving as lead on the agency’s shift towards the incorporation of motivational interviewing and coaching into their Division of Child Welfare and Division of Juvenile Justice. After starting her own coaching and consulting practice in 2020, Denise went on to partner with social service organizations, faculty from the University of Maryland, and NYC school-based support organizations providing training support in motivational interviewing and coaching.

Upon the completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Define the organizational vision and mission, identify key cultural elements, analyze their influence on decision-making, and apply them to a provided case study.
Demonstrate active listening, effective contribution, and conflict resolution within team settings, utilizing the provided case study as a basis for collaboration.
Develop, assess risks, and evaluate the effectiveness of a strategic plan for a given project, using the provided job description as a foundation for strategic planning.
Assess personal leadership traits, set SMART goals, and implement strategies for improvement, utilizing the job vision and mission from the case study to develop their own SMART goals.
Propose, encourage, and measure the impact of learning initiatives on organizational growth, drawing insights from the case study to develop recommendations for fostering a learning culture within their own contexts.
