This workshop will show how childhood sibling relationships can become a template for learning skills necessary for all adult relationships—with loved ones, friendships, and even coworkers. Parents of young children often, inadvertently, end up causing problems among siblings and depriving them of conflict-resolution skills. Specific issues for the oldest and the youngest child will be presented.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Upon the completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Determine when parents should or should not step in when children fight. 

  • Examine how parents can enhance or deter positive relationships. 

  • Examine and understand the issues often misunderstood for the oldest child and the youngest child.  

  • Discover the lifelong effect of childhood sibling relationships: the hourglass pattern.
