Description

This training will begin with strategies to connect and maintain contact with parents who are struggling to parent children who are challenging due to special needs or difficult temperaments. Parents, who themselves have difficulty connecting with their children, will find it difficult to model and coach behaviors they want for their children. Principles from the Adlerian approach to parenting, mindfulness exercises, and relevant principles of Gestalt and child-centered play therapy will be discussed, demonstrated, and practiced.

Sonia Hinds is the Founder and CEO of Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars and the Founder and Director for Barstow Acres Children’s Center which is a non-profit organization that provides mental health services to children and adults.  She received her master’s degree in Mental Health Nursing from Howard University. She has served as a U.S. Army Nurse and is a Board Certified- Advanced Psychiatric Registered Nurse.

  • Describe the process of engaging parents as partners
  • Identify the formula for effective parenting.
  • Describe the Crucial Cs and The Mistaken Goals of Behavior related to parenting and play therapy process.
  • Identify various discipline measures, including ACT model
  • Describe attachment and play therapy-based parenting models.
