Moderated by Amy Greensfelder, MSW ’17, Executive Director, Pro Bono Counseling Project, a panelists of recent UMSSW graduates will discuss how they are creating change early in their social work careers, what changes they want to see within the social work profession, how UMSSW prepared them to be change agents and challenges and successes that have impacted their career.

Director of Practice Improvement and Consulting, National Council for Mental Wellbeing  

Anthony Carter is currently a Director of Practice Improvement and Consulting at the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, a national association that drives policy and social change on behalf of over 3,100 mental health and substance use treatment organizations. Prior to joining the National Council, he served as the Data Manager for Montgomery County, MD Child Welfare Services, where he was responsible for data collection, analysis, and reporting of key performance indicators. He started with Montgomery County as a child protective services Social Worker investigating child abuse and neglect allegations. Anthony is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) in Maryland and enjoys exploring Maryland’s hiking trails, spending time with his newborn son, and all things coffee.

Research Project Coordinator, The Institute for Innovation and Implementation 
 
Maryrejahlil Lanier (they/she) is a Research Project Coordinator for The Institute for Innovation and Implementation working on projects related to transitional age youth (TAY). Maryrejahlil graduated from the SSW in May 2021 with a Macro/Clinical focus in Social Work in the Workplace and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP). They were extremely active with service organizations and an active member of several students’ groups.  They are a life-long Baltimorean who has engaged with several local non-profits and other organizations in a variety of capacities and works every day with the goal of advancing the liberation of oppressed peoples. They are a proud alumna of the Baltimore City College High School and hold a BS in Psychology, Sociology, & Anthropology and African & African American Studies from Towson University. They have not left the SSW since having completed an AmeriCorps year of service with Public Allies Maryland through SWCOS in 2016.

Elizabeth Stafford, LMSW ‘19 
Outpatient Mental Health Therapist, Grace Medical Center 

Elizabeth Stafford, (LMSW) is an Outpatient Mental Health Therapist at Grace Medical Center (formerly, Bon Secours) in West Baltimore, where she has worked since graduating in 2019. Elizabeth provides individual therapy to clients who mostly live in the West Baltimore area, and occasionally assists with group therapy in the Partial Hospitalization Program. As a therapist, Elizabeth provides various types of therapy depending on the clinical needs of the client. She also addresses the case management needs for her clients. Elizabeth earned her MSW at the University of Maryland School of Social Work, where she studied clinical social work with a concentration in behavioral health. She also had the opportunity to participant in The Behavioral Health Workforce Integration Service and Education (BHWISE) Fellowship program, where she received inter-professional education and training to address the clinical behavioral health needs of underserved communities. Elizabeth’s field placements included case management at McCulloh Towers, a low-income high rise in West Baltimore, and family therapy at the Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt.
